For this guided bike tour, you’ll receive your very own E-bike for the day. These are high quality Ampere Electric bikes, carefully selected due to their reliable nature.
Our E-xperience Tour takes us through the heart of Birsay, a beautiful Parish in the Orkney countryside. To get there, you be transported from Kirkwall in our comfortable 8-seater mini-bus.
Your initial transportation from Kirkwall to Birsay on our private minibus will take you on a journey through Orkney’s picturesque landscape. Once we arrive in Birsay and hop on the E-bikes we will visit:
Built in the late 16th century by the infamous Earl of Orkney – Robert Stewart. This palace gives you a great insight into the lavish lifestyle of the tyrannous leader.
This is the largest remaining wetland in Orkney. This location is a hot spot for several types of breeding duck as well as an exciting number of wading birds.
You must be a minimum of 14 years old to ride an electric bike in this country and therefore 14 is the minimum age you can be to come on this tour.
Yes, so long as you cancel up until a week in advance you will receive a full refund. If you cancel between a week and 48 hours before the tour is due to start you will receive a 50% refund. No refund will be granted for cancellations within 48 hours of the booked tour. (Execeptions may be considered in extreme circumstances).
For the most part yes. The bikes can be used in light to moderate rain conditions. However, unfortunately the bikes are not suitable to use in heavy rain and/or very windy conditions. We will do our best to get out on the bikes at every opportunity. In the event of very poor weather conditions, we will conduct the tour by bus and follow the same itinerary.
Birsay (the tour location) is certainly one of the quieter areas on the Orkney mainland. Although this is in the middle of a farming community, traffic is much quieter here than elsewhere, but you must show consideration with regards to passing traffic on single lane roads as it may require coming to a stop on the bike to allow them to pass. There is no need to worry about this though as tour guide Daniel will make this all clear in the briefing and instruct when the group must stop for the traffic.
